Click to go to resourceThe Mayflower Story: Up Close and Personal
DescriptionStudents in an eighth grade social studies classroom have been exposed to the Mayflower story and the story of the "Pilgrims" for most of their school careers. This information has come to them in a variety of ways. It is likely that they have not analyzed the stories that they have been told about the Plymouth Colony and its first years. In addition, they may perceive history as something that is told to them and taken at face value, without question. The purpose of this lesson is to show students that historic interpretation is a process and not static. They will be exposed to that process as they reinterpret the story of the "Pilgrims" based on information that they receive during the lesson.

Hold The Phone: Is This Math Class?

As educators, we have the responsibility of constantly adapting our teaching styles to best meet the needs of our ever-changing groups of students.  As technology evolves, we need to modify the technology we bring into the classroom.  If we are still only using pencils and paper in our classrooms, we are missing some very important tools that are available to our students.  John Dewey said, “If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow.” More...
